ETA Mu Mu CHAPTER HISTORY {2008 - Present}

I. Birth of Eta Mu Mu  

The Eta Mu Mu (HMM) Chapter of Omega Psi Phi was charted on Friday, July 18, 2008 located in Denton, Texas. One of the primary goals of this chapter is to humbly motivate and be a force for positive change in all that we undertake. We are achieving this through the same faith based belief of the four founders, and we live by the four cardinal principals they espoused. Through promoting like ideals and programs of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. we are here to offer our knowledge, hands and hearts in service to enhance the African American community and the world at large. We are bridge builders to the next generation of our youth.

II. Timeline of Superior Service and Accomplishment

HMM Chapter has served the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and the community in various capacities.

• On Friday February 24, 2012, the Brothers of the Etta Mu Mu Chapter of Denton, TX.  Pooled their time, efforts and resources to collect hundreds of articles of clothing for distribution to families in need. As men of Omega, we strive to enrich the mind, body and soul of the communities we serve. The donation made to Vision Ministries in Denton, TX helps to fulfill that effort through easing the minds of parents who can’t afford a coat for their child. We are helping a brother or sister with shoes that they may desperately need but can’t afford. Lastly, we are allowing the Lord to work through us and uplift every soul we are able to touch with our community and social action efforts.

• On Thursday December 9, 2011, the Brothers of the Etta Mu Mu Chapter of Denton, TX partnered with local community residents and students for a canned food drive to help needy families at Christmas in Denton County. Contributions by school kids, parents and the chapter totaling more than 100 pounds were taken to the Little Elm Food Bank located in Little Elm, TX for donation. By making this gesture we ensured that some families would be able to have a little more food security and peace at Christmas. Ever mindful the brothers know in doing this we are living up to our chapter motto “Enthusiastic Eta Mu Mu- Christ-based and merciful Omega-minded brothers, humbly, motivating and making a change in the community.”  

• On Saturday, November 17, 2012, the brothers of Eta Mu Mu prepared and delivered 40 Thanksgiving Turkey baskets/boxes to needy families across Denton County. The HMM chapter met that morning and supplied each box with a full meal consisting of a turkey, three sides, desserts and canned goods to feed the entire family. Some of the baskets were delivered to families in Denton, Texas and others were given to the local Child Protective Services office in Lewisville, Texas.

• On March 11, 2012 and May 5, 2013, brothers of Eta Mu Mu attended a full day of worship, remembrance and prayer in celebration of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, and to remember those who have made their way to Omega Chapter in each year.

• On Wednesday Dec 14, 2011, the Brothers of Eta Mu Mu participated in the “Secret Owls” Christmas toy drive at Cross Oaks Ranch Elementary of Crossroads, TX. The brothers of Eta Mu Mu, having partnered with the school on other occasions, stepped in to help. We adopted the wish lists of four families-two boys and two girls-to see if we could get them to a better place by alleviating some of the stress this time of year brings. Although Eta Mu Mu had money set aside for a Christmas project, it didn’t seem like enough to do this justice. In the spirit of giving, the brothers went into their own pockets and came up with matching funds totaling more than $320 and made sure each family’s wish list was fulfilled.

• On June 30 2012 HMM partnered with the AKA's of Tau Rho Omega chapter and many prominent health professionals in the Denton County area to bring free screenings, nutritional and health information to the public. Carter Blood care was on hand and made their goal for the day. Presbyterian Hospital of Denton provided a wealth of information about healthcare and wellness. HMM also conducted a voter registration drive as part of this effort.

• On April 8, 2011 Tornado relief efforts HMM partnered with a local community groups, 380 Mercury, to bring relief supplies to hard hit rural areas after the tornados of 4/3/11 devastated small towns such as Royse City where these supplies went.
