I. Birth and Lineage of Pi Delta
HI (Eta Iota) Colony of Eta Iota Graduate Chapter, (OKC) was established at the University of Oklahoma under the sponsorship of Brothers from the Eta Iota Graduate Chapter of OKC:

About this time, Dr. Melvin B. Tolson, Jr. (Theta, Wiley College, Marshall, Texas 1941), who had become the first Black member of the OU Norman Campus faculty in 1961, and who received his PhD in French & Spanish in 1964, became an active advisor to HI Colony. |

May 1972: A Charter for the Chapter was discussed: The conditions necessary for approval, etc. It was decided that an Undergraduate, rather than a Graduate, Chapter Charter was preferable. A house for the future Chapter was also discussed, with Basileus Frank Parks suggesting a feasibility study of the matter. It was disclosed that Asst. Football Coach Wendell Mosley had been a member of a Lampodos Club, but there were no more facts immediately available, and no follow-up. |
Summer 1972: Bro. Richard Charles Smith carried out the transactions with the National body of Omega Psi Phi, Inc., at what were necessary to obtain a Charter for Pi Delta Chapter at OU. |

Bro. Wilton Don Vaughn (1972), living in the West Winds Apts on Brooks St, with roommate, Bro. William Beatty (1972) drowned under unknown circumstances in the apartment swimming pool. Police and Chapter efforts to find out what had actually transpired were unsuccessful. |
APRIL 6, 1974 (ALUSHALA)

With the induction of the "New Blood" into the Chapter, Pi Delta participated in the first of two "All Black Sports Tournaments" in which they participated in the events of Basketball, Softball, Volleyball, Track, and Bowling and over the next two years won every event but one. After the second tournament, the event was never held again. |
During this and the following year, a support group, the "Pearls of Omega" was formed. It was a formal group, with president, secretary, etc., and was personally supervised by a Brother of Pi Delta. They met on a different day than the Chapter; and reports on their activities became a regular part of the Chapter agenda. In 1975, Bro. Qualls gave the supervision of the Pearls to Bro. Beatty. |

March 1977: Bro. Larry Lewis (1975) was coordinator of Pi Delta's activities during the "Shamrocks Against Dystrophy" (and related neuromuscular disorders) Drive to collect a little (St. Patrick) green" to support the vital research & patient service programs of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. |

AUGUST 1982 After 19 years of faithful service, Dr. Melvin Tolson retired from the position of Advisor to Pi Delta Chapter. Based on his recommendation, the State Representative with the approval of the District Representative appointed Bro. Douglas Brown to succeed Dr. Tolson in the position of Chapter Advisor. |

OCTOBER 1996 After serving in the capacity of Chapter Advisor for 14 years, District Representative Virgil Robinson appointed Bro. Douglas Brown as the Oklahoma State Representative. As a result, Bro. Brown resigned his position of Chapter Advisor and with the approval of the District Representative, appointed C.A. Pope to serve as the third Chapter Advisor of Pi Delta Chapter. |
