Greetings Brothers of the Mighty Ninth District,
Our “Mighty Ninth District” has been honored with having been chosen to host the 81st Grand Conclave of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. in New Orleans, LA -- July 20-24, 2018. The Ninth District was established May 5 - 6, 1937 at the Moorland Branch YMCA in Dallas, Texas under the direction of Brother J. D. Bowles of Nu Phi Chapter of Houston, Texas. As were those Brothers who lived long before us, we remain strong, worthy and committed to the success of this phenomenal Black American Male success story.
Since the date of the Mighty Ninth’s creation, we have proven ourselves to be the personification of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift. We are proud of our tradition of offering distinct compliments to the fabric of Omega. Over the years, we have offered Omega our talent, treasure and Friendship. We have especially offered our ability to lead the way to the future. Our Leadership offering has included Brother Albert W. Dent, elected the 16th Grand Basileus, Brother Warren G. Lee, Jr., elected the 38th Grand Basileus, Brother Melvin C. Zeno, elected 1st Vice Grand Basileus to name a few. We continue to offer our ability to lead the way to Omega’s future with this year being no exception.
The Brothers of the Ninth District are famous for being loyal to the oath we took to uphold the principles of Omega. We have given, over the years, all indication that we would only give the Fraternity our very best. We promised that whatever we had to give it would be meaningful, effective and lasting. For that, I as District Representative, tip my hat to you and humbly thank you for your devotion and commitment to Omega.
We have the opportunity to make the Ninth District the leadership the “Northern Star” in the Fraternity. With our commitment and dedication to the principles of Omega, we are poised to be the breakout District that leads the way to Omega’s future. Not just in Supreme Council representation, but especially in our local communities where we count the most. We are not the only the ones who look forward to seeing the Brothers, the Ques or the Bruhs; however you choose to describe this phenomenal Black American Male success story. Our families, churches and Black organizations look forward to and count on our community leadership as well. We must continue to devote ourselves to our communities with a foundation rooted in the Mandated Programs of the Fraternity. If we follow the Fraternity’s lead in the Mandated Programs model, we will have successfully served our communities in the spirit of the Founders of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
We have a pleathera of work to do in the next year. Brothers, I am counting on you to work with the Ninth District Leadership to move the District forward. We must work together as one mind set to ensure we successfully promulgate to International Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. what success means in relation to the phenomenal Black American Male success story.
Patrick Bouvier Smith
25th Ninth District Representative
