Greetings from the Mighty Ninth District!

On behalf of the Ninth District of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the Ninth District Scholarship Committee is now accepting applications for the Ninth District Community Scholarship Program for 2019. The program is available to all eligible High School Seniors throughout the Ninth District, which includes the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, or Texas.

The Ninth District of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is a professional organization of educated men with similar ideals. In keeping with the mandate of our Fraternity's Founders, we continue to make SCHOLARSHIP a significant part of our Fraternity's four cardinal principles. Every Member, Chapter and District of our great Fraternity is dedicated to Scholarship. The Ninth District Community Scholarship Program is designed to encourage, support, and cultivate positive academic performance among students entering college from communities within the Ninth District.

Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for a scholarship award, Candidates MUST:
  • Be a graduating student of a high school within Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, or Texas
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Be accepted to or have submitted an active application to one or more accredited Colleges/Universities (College/University need not be located within the Ninth District area)
  • Submit a copy of Official High School Transcript
  • Submit a copy of Official ACT and/or SAT score report
  • Be enrolled as a Full-time student during either the Summer or Fall 2019 semesters
  • Include Passport-sized photo

The Application Package
Consideration will be given only to candidates submitting complete application packages that include:
  • Completed and TYPED application form
  • Two letters of recommendations (one academic and one non-academic)
  • An Essay (500 words or less) addressing the following:
    1. Why you should receive a Ninth District Scholarship
    2. Your professional career objectives
    3. How will this Scholarship help you reach your goals
    4. You plan to impact your Community
    5. Any additional information which may assist the selection committee.

Awards Criteria
Our selection method is based on the following:
  • Overall GPA
  • ACT/SAT Scores
  • Essay (Content and Quality)
  • Leadership
  • Community Service
  • Extracurricular Activities

Awards
The amount of scholarship awards will be determined by the funds allocated by the Ninth District, the academic credentials of the applicant and the recipient's placement in relation to other scholarship winners. Awards will be disbursed to winning applicants upon presentation of proof of enrollment at an accredited college or university. Awards are made only on a one-time basis.
