About Chi Delta Delta

HISTORY OF THE CHI DELTA DELTA CHAPTER

       (As of January 17, 2005)

The initial effort to develop the membership potential for a possible chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity at Baylor University in Waco, Texas occurred with the initiation of Bro. Larry B. Lipscomb who was the first undergraduate brother from Baylor University to be initiated in the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity through the Zeta Eta Chapter at Paul Quinn College on November 20, 1976. Bro Lipscomb is now a practicing physician in Houston, Texas.

Even though other African American male students at Baylor had expressed interests in becoming members of the Fraternity during the decades of the seventies and eighties, it was not until the Fall of 1989 that the interest in membership was rekindled. Consequently, the Omicron Upsilon Chapter, the sponsoring graduate chapter in Waco, provided the umbrella for the initiation of twenty pre- chartered Baylor University undergraduate brothers into the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Specifically, the brothers initiated included: two brothers in the Fall of 1989, including Bros. Keith Caldwell and Alvin Crosby; three brothers in the Summer of 1992, including  Bros. Johnny Neal, James Talbot, Byron Thompson; three brothers in the Fall of 1995, including  Bros. Kauwuane Burton, Roderick Kinney, Anthony Taylor; two brothers in the Spring of1996, including  Bros. Shawn Boggs and Jason Dotson; one brother in the Fall of 1996, including Bro. Ryan Smith; five brothers in the Spring of 1997, including Bros. Curtis Henderson,  Jason Jackson, Udvaldo Lopez, Kristopher Micheaux, and Tori Strong; and four brothers in the Spring of 1998, including Bros. Stephan Bragner, Glenn Coy, Jody Littleton, and Kevin McNeese.

The Supreme Council of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., officially approved the chartering of the Chi Delta Delta Chapter for Baylor University in Waco, Texas on December 5, 1998. The charter was officially presented to the chapter in a special chartering ceremony by the Ninth District Representative, Bro Wendle Van Smith on February 20, 1999. The first on-campus advisor  for the chapter is Dr. Jesse W. Jones, Professor of Chemistry at Baylor University and the first off campus advisor for the chapter is Dr. Weldon J. Smith, Keeper of Records and Seal of the Omicron Upsilon Chapter of Waco, Texas.
